Outsiders Week 1 Response 1 Tell the difference between the Socs and the Greasers (hint: go to ch. 3 where cherry is talking to Pony)
One difference between the Soc's and the Greasers is money. The Soc's are rich and live in HUGE houses and the Greasers are not very rich and live in small houses. Another difference between them is physical. The Greasers grease their hair back and wear leather jackets and tight jeans where the Soc's where regular jeans and collared shirts with penny loafers. Another difference Cherry points out in Chapter 3 is that the Greasers are more emotional and the Soc's are sophisticated to the point were they don't feel wether they are hurting anothers feelings or are always looking for something but not being able to find it.They are constantly on the move and never have time to relax; always beating up Greasers or getting into fights with other gangs, and losing their "cool". She also points out that the Greasers have no feeling and the Soc's feel too violently. The feeling is the main part though.
Comments: Hi Allie, It's Hanna, if you were wondering. -- I thought you did a good job in describing the differences, and you also did a good job in telling more than about what they are physically like. It was good when you talked about the emotional needs. In my paragraph, I didn't have that kind of stuff, so it was cool to see that someone was doing something different. Overall I thought it was a great idea. I also liked how you talked about how they interact around each other. I agree with you when you said that the socs don't feel weather they were hurting others feelings. I got that feeling when I read the book too, they seem really into themselves. Anyway, I think you did a great job with your paragraph! Good Job!
Outsiders Week 1 response # 2 You have been asked to come and speak to the kids in both gangs. What could you say to them that would incorporate your values as a Catholic to help them resolve their differences? If I was asked to come and speak to the kids in both gangs I would tell them that Jesus had enemies too. He had more enemies than one gang. He was put to DEATH by his enemies. Jesus lived through it though and understood that not EVERYONE could like him. He was kind to all and he even made some enemies of God realize that God was the best thing in their lives. He helped everyone and he didn't care if they were poor or rich, or if they had greased back hair, or wore penny loafers. He didn't steal or rob, or jump anyone else; he followed the ten commandments. He befriended everyone and knew that it was up to them to be friends with him back. Now you two gangs of teens don't have to be AS perfect as Jesus was but maybe if you started to realize that you aren't the only ones living and you follow some rules or at least TRY to be a better person there wouldn't be death, or as much cell time in jail. If you think about what you are doing or about to do before doing it, there might be less consequences and you guys could join together and be friends. That's what teachers want. That's what classmates want. That's what I want. That's what Jesus wants.
Very thoughtful Alli. I hope it would make a difference, and I hope it could make young people accept one another. ~Mrs. Best
Comments: Hey! it Katie W.
Amazing job on this because it really made me want to read more of it. What you could have done to make it sound better is to change the caps to an italic.
But so far so good!!! :)
Ousiders Week 2 Response 1
B. Explain what Ponyboy finds out about Randy and the other Socs at the end of Chapter 7. In the end of chapter 7, Pony finds out that Socs like Randy are actually normal guys. He recalls what Cherry told him about how Greasers feel too tough and Socs feel too much to the point where they can't feel anything. But, he realizes that Socs DO have feelings and they can me just as emotional as Greasers. When Randy drops out of the rumble, Pony knows that he wants what they all want: for the Socs and Greasers not to be enemies and help each other and NOT FIGHT!!! Ponyboy basically realizes that past their fancy cars, and madras shirts they have feeling and a heart.

Outsiders Week 2 Response #2 A. When we get to know people better, we usually like them more. If that's true, what could we do if we really don't like someone?
If we really don't like someone then we could try to get to know them better so we will like them more. We can resist talking behind their backs ad if you despise them so much that much you can ignore them. The worst thing to do is be mean to them in front of them or behind their backs. We can talk to them more and try learning new information about them so it might be easier for them to talk to us and for us to talk to them. Overall, get to know them better and it will be easier to like them.
